Web Design Project Process
The first step in this process, is the strategy session where you get to know the clients
You’re trying to understand who they are, what they want to achieve, and how do they want this expressed visually on their website or on their brand.
It goes on to cover things like who they are, what their story is, what makes them unique and you try to understand how they are different.
Get to understand who their target audience is, what they’re offering and how they are trying to communicate Understand who they are as a brand.
The next stage is a whole separate session, just for the website itself.
In this you cover the goals of the website, what do they want to achieve with this specific website and what are the people that are actually going to visit this website wanting to achieve.
So what do you need to show them ?
This where you and the client brainstorm what content should be on the website.
Come in with your suggestions about what should be on the website but of course listen to their own needs and ideas.
Talk about everything that needs to go inside the website.
Secondly try to get some alignment about what do they expect in terms of look and feel. How do they want their website to look like.
Again, come in with some references of things that can be a good fit but this is just to trigger them and to hear what they think about this. Of course you need to encourage them to bring out their own ideas, and this helps to get broad understanding so that when you end up presenting the design, you won’t surprise them and they’ll be like, oh no that’s completely not what we’re talking about.
Collaboration is where you start by story boarding the design and creating mockups of the website.
In this part of the process you are getting feedback and commentary from the client on the website design as it takes root and shape.
Once you get approval on the key features such as pages, images, video, content and functionality then move on and start talking about the completed design itself.
Sell your design and explain your design, don’t just to show it as it is.
Demonstrate it on multiple applications including the website and social media
Build and Implement the Design
After they approved this, go ahead and build the design itself
Start with the homepage, structure all the content, and make sure it’s mobile responsive
Then basically just duplicate this page and change the content for the rest of the pages. That’s basically it.
